It is no secret that Motherlove cares for our environment — we are a Certified B Corp, we run on solar energy, we limit our use of plastic, and we love introducing more sustainable practices in our office every day, like eliminating paper napkins and straws.
Another practice that we have had in place for a few years is that we also offset our carbon generated from both personal and business air travel. Whenever someone on staff takes a flight, whether that is to visit a retailer, attend a meeting, staff a breastfeeding event, or even go on vacation, we track those miles. At the end of the year, our Sustainability Coordinator tallies a total number of miles flown and uses a carbon calculator to figure out how much carbon was generated.
In 2018, Motherlove employees traveled over 180,000 miles, which equaled 71.32 tons of carbon dioxide. To ensure that our extensive travel leads to a positive environmental change, Motherlove donates $10 for every ton of carbon we generate to a local non-profit, Trees, Water & People. They, in turn, use these funds to plant trees and provide clean cookstoves around the world.
We are always looking for new ways to give back to our environment and community, so if you or your business has other policies in place, we’d love to hear them!
