There’s something nice about the summer solstice with little ones- it’s a good excuse to slow the day down and spend more time outside. Nothing complicated, just small seasonal things woven into your usual rhythm. If you’re looking for simple ways to celebrate and have some summer fun with your kids, here are a few ideas to try!
Spend Time Outside
Start by spending as much time outside as you can - breakfast in the yard, morning walk, or just opening the windows and being in the fresh air. Keep the day open and flexible, and leave room for whatever may come. Bring our founder's Pocket Guide along for the ride.
Have a Picnic
Keep it simple - blanket outside, easy finger foods, and snacks you already have. It doesn’t need to be styled or planned.
Make Lavender Lemonade
A simple summer drink made with lavender, lemon, and a little sweetener. Chill and serve over ice. Learn how to make it here.
Get In The Garden With Your Kids
Let them dig, water, plant, or harvest - whatever your garden allows. Even just pulling weeds or watering with a small cup can be enough. The point is letting them be part of it.
Make Sun Tea
Fill a jar with water and tea or herbs, then leave it in direct sunlight for a few hours. It slowly steeps in the heat of the day. Kids can check on it as the color changes.
Infuse Ice Cubes with Nettle
Steep nettle in hot water, pour into ice cube trays, and freeze. Add to water or lemonade for a light herbal twist. Learn how to make them here.
Nature Scavenger Hunt
This is where the day turns into play! Check out this list, and head to the backyard, park, or even a walk around the block.
In the evening, slow things down again - sit outside and watch the light change. Just a day spent outside a little more than usual, noticing small things with your kids.
