Our Carbon Footprint

Our Carbon Footprint

One of Motherlove’s founding principles, or pillars, as we call them, is “Sustaining and Giving”. We’ve talked on this blog before about how we are committed to being a good steward of the environment and how we like to give back to our community. We have solar panels above our facility, we divert 98% of our waste from the landfill, and we give a portion of all of our sales to non-profit organizations.

Every year, we try to do to even more for our environment and community than the year before. A key contributor to our continued success in this realm is our Sustainability Coordinator, Javi. For the past few years, our entire staff has kept track of the number of miles we’ve flown, whether that is to attend a show on behalf of Motherlove, or vacation. At the end of the year, our Sustainability Coordinator totals the miles and makes a contribution to a local non-profit, Trees, Water, & People, to offset our carbon footprint as a result of flying.

This past year, we did even more to offset our carbon footprint. From May of 2016 to July of 2017, we measured exactly how much carbon dioxide (CO2) our body care line (such as Nipple Cream and Diaper Balm) produced. In total, over the course of about 15 months, our body care line polluted 75 Metric Tons of CO2. To put this in perspective, that is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 183,824 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle or CO2 emissions from 8,439 gallons of gasoline consumed.
