Fenugreek
Trigonella foenum-graecum

Why We Love It:
Fenugreek is a natural galactagogue, which means it helps support breast milk production. Fenugreek has been used for thousands of years and has been a favored ingredient in Chinese medicine for centuries. Aside from being used for medicinal purposes, fenugreek has been used as a common spice with a distinct maple syrup flavor.
Fenugreek is relatively safe to use for most people; however, it can cause gastric upset or gassiness. Women who have hyperthyroidism or are insulin-dependent should use caution before ingesting fenugreek. Be sure to consult with your healthcare provider before you take any product containing fenugreek.
What It Looks Like:
Fenugreek is an annual plant that grows 12-18 inches high. It is identifiable with branched, trifoliate leaves, and produces pea pods that contain yellow-brown seeds. Fenugreek comes from the pea family, as do peanuts, chickpeas, garden peas, and beans.
