Nettle
Urtica dioica

Why We Love It:
Nettle has been known to be a natural galactagogue, an herb that supports breast milk production. Nettle is nutrient-rich and contains many vitamins and minerals such as vitamins A, C, K, and several B vitamins. Not only does it contain vitamins, it also has all of the essential amino acids, calcium, iron, folic acid, and so much more. Motherlove specifically uses this herb in many of our More Milk supplement products to support healthy lactation. As always, before taking an herbal supplement, we recommend consulting with your doctor.
What It Looks Like:
Nettle has dark green serrated leaves and short hairs that cause burning and blistering when touched. It grows in moist soil, usually near streams and ditches. Nettle is an edible plant, which means most of it can be harvested, dried, and cooked.
You should never eat raw nettle, as it isn’t called “Stinging Nettle” for nothing! Nettle’s leaves have natural hair-like structures that sting when touched. Of course, when the plant is processed, its defense mechanisms no longer work and therefore, there are no side effects of stinging.
