Why We Love It:
Commonly known as cayenne, red pepper is a variety of pepper that is commonly used in cooking. These often-spicy peppers have been used for centuries in both food and beverages for their stimulating and health-supporting properties. Many animals are susceptible to the effects of capsaicin, the spicy compound in Cayenne peppers, but birds seem to be immune and can be seen eating whole peppers off the plants in their native range. Often used to support circulation, it is known to be both warming and stimulating.
What It Looks Like:
Cayenne grows throughout the tropical areas of the Americas. It is a perennial shrub that can grow up to 3 feet tall. It produces long red pods with white flat seeds.
